CAN WE ESTABLISH A CORRELATION~

It can be concluded, with plenty of evidence and studies, that there is indeed a correlation between substance use and teenage pregnancy. But is it positive or negative? A positive correlation means that the variables move together, if one increases, so does the other and vice versa. A negative correlation means that if one were to increase, the other decreases (a comparison is shown below). Furthermore, it can be said that the correlation between the two is a positive one. If substance use is high, rates of teenage pregnancy are high as well. However, we are looking at the use of substance use leading to pregnancy, not pregnancy leading to substance use, which would be a whole other discussion. There are many variable that play into each as a separate entity; social, family, school, work, and other pressures could contribute to the use of substances or to having more risky sex, but if we look at the two entities together, it is safe to establish this positive correlation.
